LOCAL MP Rachel Gilmour has backed a Liberal Democrat call for the Government to include a Good Food Bill in next month’s King’s Speech to prioritise food security and bring down prices which have risen as a result of the Iran war.

The Lib Dems are also pressing for an emergency fuel duty cut to bring down the cost of agricultural red diesel and a £1 billion increase in the farming budget to help farmers produce food sustainably and profitably.

Mrs Gilmour said West Somerset rural communities needed more Government support.

She said: “Our farmers deserve a lot better than the current raw deal they are getting from this Government, given their vital role in food security and protecting our environment.”
