AFTER 18 months of having to travel elsewhere for postal services, Carhampton residents turned out in force to welcome a new mobile pop-up post office which arrived in the village last Thursday.

“Over 30 transactions were carried out during the 90-minutes of business in the recreation centre. The mobile service was very well attended and exceeded expectations,” said the centre’s spokesperson, Lucy Parker. “We did a pop-up café which was also went well and will help to fund the heating and lighting costs. The village book store was also open.”

The previous post office in the village shop closed last April and residents had to travel to Dunster, Minehead or Watchet for postal services. The decision to provide a weekly pop-up post office came after residents made their views known in a questionnaire.

The new facility, in the centre’s Long Room, provides all post office services except passport renewal, car tax, electric key meter top-ups and TV licensing. It is open every Thursday from 2pm to 3.30pm.
