Visitors to the event, organised by the Exmoor National Park Authority, were treated to samples ranging from local beef and preserves to Exmoor distilled gin and ales.
Business relationships were forged that should see an increase in the availability of local produce on menus and shop shelves throughout the region.
Eat Exmoor is an on-going project by Exmoor National Park and Visit Exmoor, supported by West Somerset Council.
With the focus on achieving greater use and better promotion of local produce, it is hoped that Exmoor will become known as a great food destination.
The project includes other foodie events such as the CareMoor for Exmoor Dining Club and complements other organisers’ initiatives such as the Exmoor Food Festival.
Dan James, sustainable economy manager at Exmoor National Park Authority, said “We now have a brand new range of business support material.
“Increased use of local produce benefits the area in so many ways, with farming being at the heart of our breathtaking landscapes and local communities.
“Tourism is also important for our local economy and employment opportunities. We’re delighted that businesses are supporting this initiative.”
Jennette Baxter, development manager for Visit Exmoor, attended the trade day to launch the tourism body’s brand new Eat Exmoor Food & Drink Guide and website.
