PEOPLE and organisations that made donations towards new windows and doors for the Williton Guide and Brownie headquarters were invited to see the result of their support.

Williton brownies earned their Hostess badges when they held an open evening for them at the headquarters in Long Street on Tuesday, September 26.

The headquarters, rebuilt in 1985, has been in desperate need of modernisation and the windows and doors were rotten and did not comply with building insurance policies.

Grants are very difficult to obtain for renewing but the guides and brownies received £4,260.88 from the Co-Op having been selected by the Co-Ops in Williton and Watchet for the first local Community Fund grant.

Also, the Williton Ladies Who Eat Cake donated £300, Quantock Lodge gave £100 and the chairman of West Somerset Council £50.

Christmas Spirit for Williton, which used to take Santa around Williton on Christmas Eve and was run by Sue Pope and her family, donated £240 and the collection in Sue’s memory at her funeral another £200.

Sue was actively involved with the Santa sleigh to bring joy to the children and the people of Williton and with these donations her memory lives on.

The brownies completed their Hostess badge on the night, having planned the event, produced invitations and made table decorations they then welcomed their guests.
