THE West Somerset Brass Band’s new musical director, Niall Watson, presented awards to the main players and members of the training group.

Aston Coogan-Bourke was named ‘training band player of the month’, Pamela Green was the most improved player of the year and Sophie Whitworth won the Roger Paul trophy for bandsmen of the year. 

Niall made his debut with the band at the Easter service at  St Mary’s Church Nettlecombe.

The band has also played at the Somerset Day event at Bishops Lydeard Station and led the march for the Nether Stowey Ladies Walk.  Its next engagement will be at Vivary Park, Taunton, at 3pm today (Sunday, June 30).

Brass players who would like to join the band, or those keen to learn to play a brass instrument, should contact secretary Claire Whitworth at [email protected]. New players are welcome and instruments are provided.
