IT was a bath-time that about 700 spectators won’t forget as they cheered on 15 waterlogged competitors in a riotous and unauthorised bathtub race across Watchet’s outer harbour last Saturday afternoon, which had been kept secret until two days before the event.

Spectators were three and four deep along the whole length of the West Pier as competitors paddled around a figure-of-eight course, marked with large yellow buoys, in plastic baths depicting everything from a flower-garden and Covid-19 to a replica of the soon-to be-opened new East Quay development.
