WHIZKID brothers Samuel (on the left) and Joseph Nickels are the envy of their schoolfriends after being chosen to compete in the cult children's BBC programme Bamzooki. The pair, who are both pupils at Minehead Middle School, beat competition from 600 teams across the country to be chosen to take part in the show. The boys had to create their own Zook - a computerised creature - on their home computer and give it specialist skills to enable it to complete a range of cyber challenges. A BBC film crew visited the brothers, aged ten and 11, in Minehead yesterday (Thursday) and the boys will travel to the famous Elstree Studios in October to compete for a place in the next round of the competition. The programme has a huge following among six to 12-year-olds, who are able to log on to the CBBC website to create their own Zooks or help other fans improve their designs. Bamzooki was hailed as the first "cross media children's TV show" when it aired last year and features online games as well as TV footage. Each programme regularly attracts an audience of more than a million young viewers and has been polled as the sixth most watched children's show. The boys' mum Wendy said they were both interested in computers. She said: "One of them is a real computer boffin and they just sat down one morning and made their own robot. "When they asked if they could email it through I didn't think too much about it but now I think it's quite an achievement to get down to the last 30 teams." Photo: Steve Guscott.
