A MAN is being held in police custody following a manhunt which saw armed police rush to a quiet rural village.

The dramatic scenes were caught on camera on Monday, February 26, when police armed with guns raced to respond to a report of a member of the public being threatened with a weapon in Ruishton.

The alleged incident took place in the Cheats Road area, which is not far from the local primary school.

In a statement a spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “We received a call at approximately 7.20am on Monday, from a member of the public who reported being threatened by a man with a weapon in the Cheats Road area of Ruishton.

"The weapon was not used and no injury was sustained.

"Officers, including armed units, attended the scene and made sure the member of the public was safe.

"A temporary road closure was put in place, which has since been lifted."

Police arrested a man in the afternoon in the Ruishton area and he remains in custody.
