Less parking means fewer customers for the shops. In a place this small, businesses cannot absorb such losses, which is why an impressive list of businesses who have strongly objected was read to last week's parish council meeting and Sure Start West Somerset's chairman Richard Ninis, who was there.
Local shops, our shops, will decline. The WI markets could not be held - imagine Fridays without them. The library and surgery need car parking.
The Chamber of Commerce is in talks with the district council on this. People are right to be worried.

Multicoloured Christmas lights and carol singing in Carhampton Community OrchardTime is short, but as building Sure Start on the car park has not yet been before the district council for a vote, we have time to write to the council and give it our views. I strongly suggest we all do.
Sure Start says it recognises the need for plenty of car parking, but this building will remove 40 spaces and will itself need lots of spaces.
Where is the sense in that? Where will the displaced cars go? Minehead, Bridgwater or Taunton, without a doubt.
Mr Ninis has said that consultation has taken place at parish level, when in fact none had. Mrs Evesham of Sure Start addressed the parish council, but before there was any mention of Killick Way.
However, when the parish council asked the people of Williton whether they would prefer Sure Start to be at St Peter's School (where they meet at present) or on the car park, 247 voted for St Peter's and six for Killick Way.
For those who like statistics, 97.5 per cent of those who responded were for the St Peter's site - or were they against the Killick Way site?
I wrote to the deputy chief executive of the district council for information on August 8 - no reply yet. Does our district council with Sure Start care only for their pet project and not at all for the rest of us?
