SIR — I am just writing a few lines in support of the Alpaca venture at Huish Champflower, which you reported on in your September 3 issue.
Right from the start there has been a lot of hostility towards the young couple, mostly from "newcomers" to the area.
I am sure Chris and Veronica will be much more beneficial to the local community than these people who buy up farms just for the house and have no regard for the land with it.
Veronica was brought up on Higher Shute Farm and would love to continue farming on the part of it she now owns, to carry on the good work her father started over 30 years ago.
Surely with the way farming is going, any couple prepared to work hard and keep the rural community going should be encouraged and not have barriers continually put in their path.
