A FOOTBALL team which once hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons has staged a comeback to raise £477 for a good cause.

Periton Rangers was disbanded after losing every match and letting in 140 goals in just one season.

But at Christmas they were reformed under the new name of Rangers 'Init' to play a fundraising game in memory of former defender Alan Puttick.

Alan died from cancer aged just 32 and the team decided to regroup for a tribute match which now looks set to become an annual fixture.

The side faced the Watchet Blue Waves at Watchet Memorial Ground, with all the money raised donated to the Beacon Centre at Musgrove Park Hospital, in Taunton, where Alan was treated.

Team manager Richard Cross said the game had been a huge success and raised almost £500 for the centre.

"We're hoping to be able to do it again this year and would like to say a big thank you to everyone at Watchet Town Football Club for hosting the match, rounding up the money and giving the venue free of charge," Richard said.
