CYCLISTS from across the South West are gearing up for a charity ride which is set to take place in less than two weeks.

Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance’s Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge returns on Saturday, May 10, marking the charity’s 25th anniversary of saving lives.

The event offers two route options: a 55-mile route from Watchet Harbour in Somerset to West Bay in Dorset, and a shorter family-friendly 11-mile route from The Royal Oak in Drimpton to West Bay.

With a mixture of quiet back roads, interspersed with some very demanding climbs and equally hairy descents, Coast to Coast has something to offer for everyone. There are several pit-stops along the route, which provide a well-earned rest and refreshments.

Cyclists can take part as individuals or in teams and are encouraged to raise a minimum of £50 in sponsorship. Entry for the 55-mile route costs £40 for adults and £20 for under 16s, and for the 11-mile route, £20 for adults, and £10 for under 16s.

Alana Hardy, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance events officer, said: “This year’s Coast to Coast is more than just a bike ride - it’s a celebration of 25 years of saving lives, and we want you to be a part of this milestone.

“With just over two weeks to go until event day, spaces are filling up for our 14th Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge. It will be another exciting day across the two counties, bringing people together whilst raising much needed funds.

“Don’t miss out, secure your place today. We can’t wait to see you all.”

Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance provides lifesaving, pre-hospital critical care, to patients in need. Last year, the charity was tasked to 2,909 incidents, with each mission costing approximately £3,500.
