AN Allerford woman who shaved her head for a good cause on one of the snowiest days of the year has raised over £1,300 for a breast cancer charity.
Leighanne Beart, 33, of Allerford, nearly could not do the challenge in aid of Breast Cancer Care on her chosen day last Friday (March 3) because of the snow.
Neither she nor her hairdresser could get to the salon to shave her hair off – but her fiancé Adam Reed stepped up to the mark and cut her hair off with his beard trimmers instead.
Leighanne, a mother of one, made seven plaits of at least seven inches long out of her hair, and is donating them to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for children who have lost their hair due to illness.
“I was ready to roll and didn’t want to put it of f… so Adam got to work with his trimmers,” said Leighanne.
“I have never shaved my hair before, so it was a bit of a shock – but raising money and awareness for two great charities makes it totally worth it!”
She raised £1,292 online and another £50 cash for Breast Cancer Care, as it was the chosen charity of her aunt, who died from a cancer-related illness last year.
Although Leighanne had exceeded her original target of £750, she said she was keeping her Just Giving Page open for a few more weeks.
