A FORMER abattoir in Porlock has been sold for well in excess of its auction guide price of £90,000 to £110,000.

The site, which was owned by butcher Gerald David before it was seized by receivers, was one of a number of lots sold by Clive Emson regional land and property auctioneers last Thursday.

Mr David's firm went into administration with large debts last October.

The abattoir was put up for sale by the official receivers and was sold prior to auction.

Auctioneer Scott Gray said: "Through us, a sensible offer was made by a private investor, with the premises sold for an undisclosed sum.

"The new owner has spotted the unusual opportunity on this fascinating site with potential to continue its previous use or commercial or even residential schemes subject to the necessary consents being gained."
