THE roof of the Valiant Soldier pub in Roadwater was completely destroyed by fire at yesterday lunchtime (Sunday November 13).

Heavy smoke was seen coming from the roof shortly before 12.30pm and five fire crews tackled the incident – two from Williton, two from Minehead and the fifth from Wiveliscombe – plus their command unit and the water bowser from Exeter.
An aerial appliance from Taunton was also called to attend.
They worked throughout the afternoon and by 5pm were making steady progress, stripping the roof tiles and dampening down hot spots.
