A MOTORCYCLIST from Minehead died after a collision with a car on the A39 on Exmoor on Saturday afternoon after unsuccessful attempts to save him by members of the public and an off-duty nurse.

The driver of the car was uninjured in the accident, which happened at Brendon, near Lynton.

A mile-long section of the road was closed for five hours while police carried out forensic tests. It was re-opened at 10pm.

The accident, near Wingate Farm, occurred at 4.20pm. The fatally injured man has not yet been named.

A Devon and Cornwall police spokesman said: “The motorcyclist was given CPR at the scene by members of the public and an off-duty nurse, but was pronounced dead by an air ambulance doctor.”

Officers of the police serious collision investigation team have appealed for witnesses, who should quote log number 621 of the 11/05/19.
