TWO drivers were taken to hospital, one by air ambulance and the other overland, after their vehicles were involved in a head-on collision on Christmas Eve.

The accident happened at Sticklepath, near Chidgely, just after 1pm, when a four-wheel drive carrying four passengers and a pick-up truck with a single driver collided.

Two fire crews from Williton and Minehead were called to the scene.

Although neither driver was physically trapped, they were confined within their vehicles suffering neck and chest pains.

The fire crews made the vehicles safe for medical crews to assess the casualties, including removing the doors so that ambulance crews could move them.

The man driving the pick-up truck was airlifted to hospital, while the woman driver of the four-wheel drive was taken to hospital by land ambulance. Neither had life-threatening injuries.

The passengers were able to get out of the car on their own.
