TWO families became stuck in the mud at Blue Anchor beach on the weekend after attempting to reach the low tide mark.

Police called Coastguards to report one of the families struggling in the mud as they were trying to return to the sea front, on Saturday afternoon.

A Watchet Coastguard spokesman said: “Luckily, instructions were shouted to them and they managed to clear the mud.

“A second family came forward and stated they also had been stuck earlier and were not sure what to do.

“We remind everyone visiting the local shoreline to take care, and take notice of the warning signs and if you become stuck to spread your weight (lie down) and call out for help or if you can, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
