WITH only the second playing of the Champions of Champions’ skittles match between the Dunster League and Watchet League since the Covid outbreak it was Watchet’s turn to stage the annual event at Watchet Football Club between Bell All Stars (Watchet) and Exmoor Horns.
The home side got off to a flying start, opening up a 48 pin lead at half time. The Exford side responded with hands of 52, 55, to reduce the deficit to 37 and after hitting a 64 hand saw them only 23 pins down. A
hand of 53 saw All Stars recover to see them 26 pins up with two hands to go. In their final two hands the visitors could only record two 42 hands leaving the Stars 59 pins to win.
All Stars Matt Robinson (17) and Andy Bryant (13) eased them to a final victory by 50 pins. A solid team performance with all but one of the home side hitting a ton plus led by Barrie Jones 125 saw them avenge last season’s result against the same team which was played in the true spirit of the game.
Meanwhile, the new season in the Watchet League will commence on September 8th with a reduced number of teams due to four sides withdrawing from the League.
Combwich Otters, Badgers, Quantock Stags and Outsiders were unable to raise enough players.
The Premier League will have 12 teams while the A Division will have 10. The Premier League will play for the Front Pin Cup on a knockout basis while the A Division will play two groups of five teams in a round robin format for the Landlords Cup.
The annual general meeting will take place at Watchet Football Club on Monday, 21st July, with fees being able to be paid from 7.30 a.m. with the meeting to start at 8pm prompt.
