THE May Day Bank Holiday meant that there were no competitions for the Minehead & West Somerset Golf Club Seniors with many electing to play a friendly.

Wednesday, however, was busy as Minehead & West Somerset hosted the Seniors Individual Open, which attracted a large entry of 84 participants in what turned out to be a very successful and enjoyable competition.

Played in blustery conditions, the undisputed and well-deserved winner with 43 points, including 12 pars, was Dave Oatridge (Minehead). Playing off a handicap of 14 the winner also parred the back nine.

In second place with 40 was Kevin Burt (Minehead) while third position was claimed on countback by Tony Pizii (Minehead) with 39.

To end the week, the Seniors played a Pinehurst Greensomes. Against heavy squalls particularly affecting those pairings that went out late, a large entry generally managed to control the elements and score well.

In first place with 47 points were Martin Hole and Paul Thompson who dovetailed perfectly. Second place with 46 was taken by Pete Bowden and Dave Oatridge while third position with 44 went to Phil Bowden and Andy Coward.
