THE Senior section of Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club have enjoyed another busy week during which they played two club competitions - and also hosted Tiverton in an inter-club match.

On Monday in less-than-ideal conditions, Minehead played a white, yellow, red Stableford when a large entry enjoyed strong winds and rain which played their part in no small measure. The earlier tee times benefitted so no surprise that those scoring well took their opportunity.

In first place with 39 points was Steve Woodbury, closely followed by Sandy Lyons with 38 on count back and Martin Hole while fourth position went to John Burrow with 37.

Minehead Seniors hosted Tiverton on Wednesday where, at the end of a closely fought match, the result was a 3-3 tie. The hotly awaited return match will be played on Tuesday, August 15.

Rounding off the week on Friday, the Seniors played a Texas Scramble. As always, the competition was fully booked and keenly contested with a returned score of 59 looking to win it.

However, the final two teams had other ideas, with the winning team of Dave Walmsley, Sandy Lyons and Dave Chidgey scoring an excellent 57. In second place with 58 were Doug Hayhoe, John Burrow and Bob Dainty.
