WIVELISCOMBE lost another close match 26-21 at Crediton in Regional Two South West, writes Roger Bellamy.
With both teams having given promising performances in their opening games, this was always going to be a close encounter.
Arthur Irvine gave Wiveliscombe the perfect start with a try from forty yards out with a fine individual try, with fly half Olly Standbury converting.
Crediton levelled the score with a try from prop George Down after a period of pressure in Wiveliscombe’s twenty two. Fly half Ollie Harris converted to make it 7-7.
Play began to take a definite pattern as the game progressed with Crediton’s threes looking dangerous when moving the ball and their line-outs providing clean possession for their backs while Wiveliscombe’s scrums presented problems for the home side, making life uncomfortable throughout the game,
The match became more physical as it progressed with both teams using their reserves .
Crediton took the lead with a try from centre George Down converted by Ollie Harris while Wiveliscombe levelled the score at 14-14 at half time with a try from captain Will Ellis which was converted by Standbury.
Wiveliscombe scored their third try early in the second half with centre Will Ruell forcing his way over the home try line, Fly half George Morgan converted.
Crediton continued to play their expansive game and were rewarded with a third try from winger Josh Woodland, converted by Harris.
Wiveliscombe have had close results in their two league matches and this game was looking like it might end in similar fashion but it was the home team who took the points with a last minute try through Josh Woodland, his second of the game, giving Crediton a bonus point victory. Wiveliscombe ended with one loosing bonus point.
Crediton sit second in the division after this win, while Wiveliscombe are in tenth position.
