MINEHEAD Colts were beaten 31-27 at home by Wells Colts, having let a winning position slip in the second half.
However, the game was a personal landmark for backrower Seb White who snapped up four tries.
The visitors scored early, but the Barbarians struck back when Browne took a quick tap penalty and fed White who burst through to score.
Lock carried well to keep his team on the front foot, while hooker Norrish was constantly looking for work. It was good to see James back in the squad for the first time this season.
Minehead’s much lighter pack held up well in the early scrums, and won a scrum near the visitors’ line. The ball went out, Lynch carried hard, and the next phase saw Lock power through to score.
Wells struck back with a big forward forcing his way over. The match continued to swing each way; from a ruck, Lock took a pass, and slipped the ball inside to White who dived over.
Penny then came on for the injured Swann. To run salt in, the ball was moved wide from a tackle and Wells scored in the corner.
As Wells tried to drive a maul to the home line, White stole the ball and sprinted the whole length of the field to score for his team.
The second half saw Wing and Hollingsworth come off the bench, and both made a positive contribution.
Again Wells came back with another try by the posts. This was closely followed by the visitors kicking though and winning the chase to the try line.
The Barbarians then won good ball, Ahern kicked long, with a fine chase from Lynch who was stopped just short, but once again White was on hand to gather the ball for five points.
Leo Grigg and Seb White were Minehead’s players of the day.
