MINEHEAD Barbarians made it three successive victories, winning an entertaining home game 39-26 against Rebels.
The game had a great flow all afternoon which is credit not just to both teams but the excellent referee. After yet another period of attack, Minehead were awarded a penalty following some excellent carries by Allerton, Edwards Junior and Swann which Milton converted.
Soon after Minehead were on the attack again. The veteran 8,9,10 combo of Edwards, Partfitt and Milton created an opportunity for Milton to open the try scoring for the home team. Following a yellow card for Rebels due to a dangerous tackle, the impressive Edwards crashed over for a well deserved score for the sizeable No 8.
Despite superb defence from Senior, Buckingham and Bullard, Rebels breached the home line to make it 15-5 at half time.
Such is the depth of squad, coach Hooper-Graham was able to unleash his very own 'bomb squad' with Willes, Hole and Coleman entering the fray. Beaver had another strong throwing display in the lineout enabling regular clean set piece ball with Buckingham and Bullard ruling the air. Following this set piece, several strong carries from Nunn and Hole, enabled captain Buckingham to score under the posts.
However, Rebels continued to threaten and following a powerful scrum, their impressive No9 made a break through weak Barbarian tackling, to then unleash the No8 to storm to the try line.
The game was now at a pivotal point. However, Parfitt, playing out of usual position at No 9, used all his physicality to 'show and go' over from close range and give the home side a two-score cushion. The last play saw Minehead again show real improvements in attack as eventually the ball found the ever dangerous Chin and he rounded his man to complete a fine afternoon for the home team.
