A MINEHEAD & Bridgwater Under 14 Girls combined rugby side enjoyed a good learning experience against a very well-drilled Ravens team, who have been playing together for around five years and showed great structure throughout the game.
Despite coming up against an experienced outfit, the combined team put up a great fight and showed real character. There was some very good defending, with players working hard to shut down space and make solid tackles.
Going forward, the girls produced several strong runs, backed up by good team support, keeping phases alive and showing confidence in attack. At the set piece, the scrummaging was excellent, providing a solid platform, while the breakdown work was impressive with strong and safe rucking throughout the match. Plenty of positives to take away against quality opposition.
The foundations are there and, with more time playing together, this group will only continue to grow and improve, so a massive well done to all involved .
A fantastic performance from the Minehead Barbarians Under12 girls against Burnham on Sea the following day produced plenty of positives.
The girls showed huge commitment in defence, putting in some massive tackles and never backing down. At the breakdown, the rucking was outstanding, with great technique and determination to secure quick ball. Going forward, the team produced some quality tries built on strong running lines and excellent support play.
What stood out most was the teamwork and communication throughout the match – players talking, organising, and working hard for each other from start to finish. This was a really encouraging display full of effort, bravery, and togetherness.
Massive well done to all the girls, keep building, keep believing, and keep enjoying your rugby. Special thanks to Bridgwater for filling the empty spots.
Girls training at Minehead Barbarians is every Wednesday at 6.30pm, no experience necessary, so why not go along and try it.
