MINEHEAD and West Somerset Golf Club Seniors played the first round of the Marshall Cup, which is a medal competition with the winner being the player attaining the best three round aggregate nett score out of five.
The decisive winner of the first round with nett 66 was Bob Arthington, with Tony Connolly in second position with nett 70 on count back ahead of Malcolm Bruce.
The midweek white tee medal competition certainly proved challenging, particularly for those playing the later tees as the predicted weather closed in.
It was no surprise therefore, that the winners all went out early. Martin Hole won with an excellent nett score of 71, and he was followed by Tony Connolly with a nett 73 and Nigel Moore, on countback, with a nett 74.
Meanwhile, Minehead Seniors also played a midweek friendly match away at Royal North Devon Golf Club at Westward Ho!. This is always an excellent occasion when two of the oldest clubs in the South West of England get together to enjoy the friendly rivalry that exists and the match that is always played in an excellent spirit.
At the end of what is always a most enjoyable occasion, congratulations go the Royal North Devon Golf Club Seniors who triumphed with a 4-2 win.
The final competition of the week that was played on Friday at Minehead and West Somerset was a Florida Scramble - a three ball event which resulted in a very close finish.
The winning trio of Dave Walmsley, Chris Durman and Sandy Lyons took first place on count back with nett 63, ahead of Rob Poirrier, David Atcherley-Symes and Alan Ayton. Third place with nett 66 went to Andy Giles, Peter Chapple and Nigel Trevelyan.
