The familiar sight of mums, dads and beaming children returned to the Rec after the last half-mile drag to the finish brought rapturous cheers from on-lookers, having amused travelling holidaymakers who were temporarily held up in the High Street.

First across the line was three times winner Ben Tull in a time of 11 minutes 12 seconds, and first lady home was the Top Ship’s Lindsay Gable, allowed time off from a busy weekend pulling pints.
