ARE you passionate about sports? If so, why don’t you consider joining the FREE Sporting Memories club in Minehead, writes WSFP correspondent Richard Walsh.

The Somerset Cricket Foundation is launching its Sporting Memories programme for men aged 50 and above at Minehead Rugby Club on Thursday, July 24th (from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon).

Somerset Cricket Foundation operates a variety of community based cricket activities throughout the county, welcoming older individuals who wish to forge friendships and connections in their local communities.

The new club in Minehead, which will be managed by the Somerset Cricket Foundation, harnesses the power of reminiscing and discussing sports, combined with physical activities, to enhance the lives of men aged 50 and over, including those facing challenges such as early on set dementia, depression, or social isolation.

This initiative presents an excellent opportunity for local men aged 50 and over from diverse backgrounds to share their experiences and engage in weekly sessions that evoke cherished memories through photographs and quizzes, while also participating in enjoyable games and inclusive exercises. Additionally, participants can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, often accompanied by biscuits, during the break.

Somerset Cricket Foundation are seeking male members to attend the free weekly sessions, as well as local individuals who will be willing to volunteer their time and support in running the club. Without the dedication of volunteers, the Sporting Memories clubs across would not be able to operate, and all volunteers receive training and support to facilitate engaging sessions for members, even those who may not have a strong interest in sports.
