MINEHEAD’S continued their quest for points in what has been a tough season by hosting mid-table Taunton Vale 3s at home. Light on numbers but full of optimism after a solid performance the previous week against a good Chard side Minehead started the game positively. A tweak to the formation and a new role for Claude Mahlich at centre back alongside cptain Tom White seemed to bring some calmness to proceedings. Minehead enjoyed plenty of possession through the first half and with some lovely hockey down both wings began to look increasingly threatening. Eventually pressure told and Mark Bolton was found in the D to slot home under the keeper and put Minehead 1-0 up. One quickly became two as Luke Barker went on a mazy solo run from the halfway line that ultimately saw him round the keeper and tuck in. “Goal of the season that” says Claude Mahlich. Minehead really had their tails up now and good work down the right from a repaired Nick Jones and James White saw the ball loop up over a crowd of players and fall to William Pring on the half volley. Mark Bolton had placed his mortgage on an enormous swing and miss but William defied expectation, kept his eyes firmly shut and connected beautifully to wallop it into the roof of the net. “Goal of the season that” says Claude Mahlich. Winning 3-0 at half time and Minehead really were in business. A “lovely” team talk and even “lovelier oranges” meant Minehead were well placed to start the second half on the front foot. Fairly even stevens for the first before a thing of beauty was conjured again down the right wing. Nick Jones and Mark Bolton were the architects on this occasion with some liquid hockey before finding Hooper in acres to slot home.Unfortunately, ex-Minehead player Nick Bennett spoiled the party with an incredibly scruffy short corner that captain White nicked through Keeper Adrian Bagg’s legs.
