MINEHEAD Tennis Club’s Veterans B Team travelled to Street last Wednesday (February 28) to play a wet and soggy match against The Victoria Club in the Veterans B division of the North Somerset Winter League.

Phil Bastin and Paul Rees lost heavily to Richard Moore and Phil Butler 6-2, 6-1 but the Minehead Ladies pairing of Judy Kay and Corinne Rees won a close match against Shonagh Butler and Caroline Williams 7-6, 6-3 making the match evenly poised at two sets all at the halfway stage.

Judy and Phil had a very close match losing in the deciding third set championship tiebreaker against Richard and Caroline while Corinne and Paul had a close two set match with Shonagh and Phil winning 7-6, 6-4. Minehead won the match overall by five sets to three taking seven points to Victoria’s three.

Minehead Lawn Tennis Club have three mixed teams playing in The North Somerset League this winter; come April they will be fielding seven mixed men’s and ladies teams in both The North Somerset and West Somerset Leagues.

Beginners and returners to the game are all very welcome.
