A BELOW-PAR Minehead scraped to a 1-0 victory over local rivals Bridgwater A to maintain their challenge for top spot in Central Division Two of the GoCrea8 Hockey League.
The home team enjoyed plenty of possession but were unable to breakdown a stubborn Bridgwater defence, some wayward finishing also contributing to a 0-0 half-time scoreline.
In the second half, Bridgwater, who were a constant threat on the counter, were denied an opener by a brilliant double save by Fred Wilson in the Minehead goal.
A frustrated Minehead finally broke the deadlock with ten minutes remaining, Nick Jones with a classy near post finish giving them the lead.
They then survived a late Bridgwater onslaught to seal the three points and retain third position in the table.
The Inspired Partnership man of the match was Jos Bennett.

Minehead A ran riot away to bottom of the table ECV Hornets B to record a 9-0 victory in South East Division One.
In their most complete performance of the season, the seasiders picked off their opponents at regular intervals with seven different players finding the net.
John Clegg led the way with his first Minehead hat-trick, and the others came from Ben Sellick, Josh Smith, Mark Bolton, Alex Covey, Jack Chown and Ben Thompson.
Minehead A remain sixth in the table.

Minehead B completed a hat-trick of wins for the club when their remarkable run of results continued with a 3-1 victory away to third-placed Yeovil and Sherbourne B in South East Division Two.
With a bare 11 players, they took their chances when they mattered, Archie Marsh in fine form with a double and Ryan Dean also registering.
Having lost their first seven league games, this fourth victory in six matches has given Minehead B a fighting chance of avoiding relegation.
With three games remaining they currently occupy the final relegation spot but crucially are only three points from safety.
