MINEHEAD Golf Club Seniors have been promoted from the Seniors Avalon S2 (Division Two) League.
A playoff between the top two teams, Minehead and Worlebury, will take place at a neutral venue (Mendip Springs) along with the two top clubs from the remaining two leagues running concurrently, to establish an overall winner. However, Minehead are guaranteed promotion.
Well done to he Minehead captain, Dave Oatridge for leading the team so successfully and club captain Bob Arthington for his support.
Whatever happens in the play off, Minehead will be playing in Division One next year which is a considerable achievement for a club of its size.
Tuesday saw the return match between Minehead Seniors and their hosts Taunton & Pickeridge who won 5-1.
On Wednesday, the Seniors played the first of two trophy competitions taking place during week.
The New Century Cup was played as a Pinehurst Greensomes format when, despite the wind, the winners Tim Evans and Sandy Lyons were not to be distracted and won the competition decisively with 49 points.
In second place on count back were Roger Read and Tony Connolly, while third position went to Dave Oatridge and Richard Austwick.
On Friday it was the turn of the Burgess Tankard, the format being a medal competition off yellow tees when another excellent turn out witnessed a keenly contested event.
Steve Waterman, who is right back in form , took the honours with a superb nett 65, just ahead of Bob Arthington (66) and Willie Brown in third position (67) on countback.
