MINEHEAD will be looking to keep up the pressure at the top of the Premier Division in the Somerset Cricket League when they play Taunton Deane 2nd XI at the Convent Field this afternoon (Sat).

The seasiders pulled off their best win of the season last weekend when they beat leaders Long Sutton by four wickets away, collecting 35 points.

Long Sutton remain top but Minehead, now up to fourth in the table, are only 23 points behind the leaders. With a possible 35 points at stake for a victory, Minehead have put themselves right back in the frame for the championship and a return to the West of England Premier League.

Minehead 's bowlers were in good shape against Long Sutton with Braden Taylor taking 4-29 and Gary Bennett 3-37 while opener Alastair Harrison hit 75 to steer the seasiders to a splendid success.

Minehead 2nd XI have a tough away match in the third division when they play away to Yeovil whyo have a 60-point lead at the top fo the table. Minehead beat North Perrott by 40 runs at home last weekend, with Oliver Groves snapped up 4-31.

Meanwhile Wiveliscombe, second in Division Three but 60 runs behind leaders Yeovil, are home to Taunton St Andrews A XI, who are sixth.

West Somerset League first division leaders Kilve are home to former top team Morebath while second placed Bagborough are away to Bridgetown.

In the second division, leaders Ashbrittle entertain second-placed East Huntspill in another top of the table clash with 47 points separately the teams. Ashbrittle also have a crucial game in hand, having won all seven of their fixtures this season.

Division Three leaders Watchet will be back in action when they play at home to Cannington, who are lying fifth.

Sampford Arundel, who have a 32-point lead at the top of Division Four, have an away derby match against Hemyock, who are fifth.

Teams in action in the Taunton & District Youth League this evening (Fri) include Bagborough, Wiveliscombe, Stogumber and Brompton Ralph.
