MINEHEAD and West Somerset Golf Club Seniors welcomed the Royal North Devon Golf Club for their latest friendly match.

The fixture is always a special  occasion between the two longest established golf clubs in the South West.

Good weather prevailed on the day with Minehead managing a 6-1 win, thereby continuing their excellent start to the season.

A Pinehurst Greensomes competition was played on Friday and with improving weather conditions the course is drying nicely and the ball is running on the fairways.

Despite this, a strong wind meant making the right club selection quite an art and scoring quite challenging.

Meeting this challenge were Chris Garwood and Graham Smith with 36 points, just ahead of Chris Durman and Roger Green with 35 while in third place with 34 were Martin Hole and Tony Connolly.

This has been a difficult year for all golf clubs with the weather so bad. Many clubs have had to cancel competitions - much to the disappointment of members. Fortunately, the Minehead club have not suffered as much because of its closeness to the sea which enables golf to continue when other courses might have to cancel.
