A BUSY week of competitive golf for Minehead and West Somerset Seniors started with seven teams of three playing a 666 competition, with one to count on the first six, two of the second six and all three to count on the final six.

The winners with a total of 74 were Dave Ball, Neville Parsons and Bob Arthington. Second place with 73 went to Doug Hayhoe, Malcolm Bruce and Tim Tennant while third with 71 were Mark Ruttley, Tony Connolly and Edward Frewin.

The Senior’s Stableford played on Wednesday proved to be another close competition. In first place with 41 points was Martin Hole who is currently enjoying a rich vein of form. Second place was claimed by Mark Ruttley with 40 and third position was taken by John Burrow with 39.

The culmination of the Marshall Cup was played on Friday and effectively, the result after five rounds was decided on the 18th hole.

The fifth round proved to be very competitive, since not only were members playing for the best score on the day, but also to improve on their best aggregate three round score for the Cup competition.

On the day Dave Oatridge came in with a nett 67, while Nigel Moore came second on countback with 69, followed by Mark Ruttley. Four players also returned a nett 70 score.

The individual scores on the final day paid dividends in terms of the results of the Marshall Cup. Dave Oatridge and Nigel Moore shared second place with an aggregate total of 205 for the best three rounds.

However, the well-deserved winner of the Marshall Cup 2023 with 203 was Martin Hole.
