MINEHEAD and West Somerset Golf Club Seniors' new captain Martyn Westbury has not enjoyed the best of starts to his time in charge.

A combination of bad weather and the Easter break meant that very few seniors' internal competitions were arranged and many of those that were, were eventually cancelled.

Nevertheless, several friendly matches have been played with mixed success. The results are as follows: Minehead v Taunton & Pickeridge Lost 4:2, Minehead v Oake Manor Won 5.5:0.5;

Burnham & Berrow v Minehead Lost 4:2; Enmore v Minehead postponed, to be rearranged later in the year; Minehead v Royal North Devon Won 4:3.

On Friday in chilly conditions, the Seniors played a 6,6,6 competition where the best score counted on the first six holes, the best two scores on holes 7-12, and all three scores counted on the final six holes.

In a closely fought contest, the winners with 77 points were Dave Ball, Paul Thompson and Tim Evans, who were one ahead of Martyn Westbury, Alan Ayton and David Jack who claimed second position with 76. Third with 74 were Mark Ruttley, Ash Stockley and Richard Burton.
