MASTERIUS was our fourteenth winner of the season last week when winning a bumper at Southwell under Jack Tudor.
I was under extra pressure as my mum is a part owner of the horse with William Frewen. It was lovely to get a winner in these famous green, white and orange silks and keep mum happy. Masterius is likely to be heading over hurdles next.
Bashful Boy was our only other runner of last week (he finished fourth and ran okay) after we took Neon Moon to Ffos Las on Wednesday but we made him a late non-runner as the ground ended up being softer that ideal for him.
This week starts with a runner for us on the flat at Bath. It is a special runner because it is Jack Pipe’s first ride under rules.
Jack rides Ocean Heights in the opening race at Bath on Monday afternoon, an amateur riders handicap over 2m1f.
There is no pressure on Jack but hopefully he will enjoy it and with a good clear run he should not be far away.
On Wednesday we have entries at Worcester and on Thursday at Ffos Las. Goodbye Earl has entries at both meetings and we will try and pick the best bumper for him to make his stable debut. Keep Star could also make his stable debut.
Navarau and Jaipaletemps are our two entries at Ffos Las on Thursday. Navarau is a four-year-old who just had the one start for us over hurdles last season where he finished third at Taunton.
Jaipaletemps is entered in the two-mile handicap chase. Our seven-year-old won five chases last season, two at the track. He will find things tougher this season, starting from a mark of 123 but he is in very good form at home.
Keep checking the Daily News on the website for all the latest on the stable runners.
Please find a few more of our horses in training to follow this winter: WALKADINA - Lightly raced for her age, she is a hurdle winner who just had the three starts last season. She is capable of winning from her current rating and will probably jump fences at some point as well.
WAY OF STARS - Acquired from the Newmarket Horses in Training Sales last October, he is a winner on the flat and has a rating of 86. Took to jumping nicely and had three good runs which included a win at Taunton. Not the biggest but jumps well, has a good attitude and goes on any ground. Could head to Cheltenham’s November meeting next.
WELL DICK - A two-time chase and two-time hurdle winner who has joined us this summer. He has some good form in the book and he shows plenty of ability and enthusiasm at home. A gentle giant, we are still learning about him but he will stay all day and loves soft ground. Staying chases and the regional nationals are likely to be his targets.
WINDBENEATHMYWINGS - A very talented individual who unfortunately has not been seen on the racecourse since winning a Listed Bumper at Ascot very impressively in December 2024. The good news is that he has returned this season fresh and well and we are dreaming of what might be over hurdles this winter.
