MINEHEAD and West Somerset Ladies Section of the Golf Club have continued their busy summer with a big variety of competitions
Sarah Hill beat Ginnette Bowyer in the internal matchplay final of the Coronation Cup knockout.
The Arnold Palmer Charity Day saw Emma Harris (pictured) and Deano Carlin picking up the Ladies Members’ Rose Bowl and a fourball at Honiton Golf Club, scoring 48 points.
The Ladies Member/Guest Section was won by Annette O’Hare and Judy Smale (Royal Automobile Country Club) with 44 points, winning a fourball at Lyme Regis Golf Club.
The ladies travelled away to play Isle of Wedmore Golf Club in the Somerset League. A strong side produced a win for Minehead 5 ½ to 1 ½ against a much bigger ladies’ section.
The Thursday competition saw 16 participants for a day cup which was a Stableford for the Red Cross Trophy. Each player donated £2 to the Red Cross Charity. With rain coming in it saw the club’s Lady Captain, Pat Lucas (31), winning with 40 points. Second was Flora Horne (34) on 39 points, beating Sarah Hill (21, also on 39 points, on countback, with all playing under their handicap.
This last week has seen the final league match for the year which was away against Wheathill. Minehead were defeated 5-2.
The weekly competition was for the Michealmas (higher handicappers) and Clanville (lower handicappers) Bowls. This was strokeplay medal with heavy showers and strong winds to contend with. For the Michealmas Bowl Flora Horne won with a nett 73, beating Jennifer James on Nett 77. Third was Claire Hayhoe, a relatively new member, also on a nett 77.
For the Clanville Bowl Kay Luckett was victorious with a nett 77, second was Deano Carlin with nett 79, and hird Sarah Hill with a nett 80.
