THE last two weeks have seen lots going on for the Ladies Section of Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club.
The Berger (lower handicappers) and Lorna Sparkes Cups (higher handicappers) were competed for. The Lorna Sparkes was won by Pat Lucas with a nett 66, while second was Gill Hurley on a nett 69.
The Berger Cup was won by Kay Luckett with a nett 69, second was Nancy Marshall with a nett 71.
At the weekend the Clover Cup was contested for. This was won by Sarah Hill with a nett 71,while second was Gill Hurley, also on a nett of 71. Sarah enjoyed a better score on the back nine.
The final of the Luttrell Cup knockout also took place between Anne Oglesby and Jayne Fulwell. The match was very close going to the last hole where Anne was victorious.
This week the section emjoyed am inter-club match against Ilfracombe, Devon, at home. Four teams of two competed against each other with an easterly wind helping on the way in. The match was close with Minehead having a home advantage and winning 2 ½ to 1½ .
The Thursday Ladies competition was the Senior Cup for ladies 60+. This was a Stableford. Again, an easterly wind prevailed, but not much of it, meaning there was some high scoring; also, the hard ground gave lots of run on the ball. Paula Parkin was first with 46 points, shooting an impressive 10 under her handicap. Second was Ros Chidgey with 43 points (7 under handicap) , 3rd Sue Garwood on 42 points (6 under handicap).
Next week sees a league match away against Wedmore and the Ladies competition is for the Red Cross Trophy which again is Stableford format. A £2 donation goes from each player to the Red Cross Charity.
