IT HAS been an active month for the Ladies of Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club who have been enjoying the favourable playing conditions which have come about during the
fine weather over the past few weeks.
However, the ladies have also had to endure some windy conditions at some events which has proved a test for even the best of players.
Last week’s competition, ‘4 clubs and a putter’ was won by Jacqueline Brocklehurst. who has a playing handicap of 56, with a nett 58 - which was a massive 15 under her handicap. Second was Sue Garwood (34) posting a nett 72. Both are new members of the club who recently got their handicaps. Well done to both!
Also last week Minehead combined with Oake Manor Golf Club, near Wellington, to send two teams of four to a well organised event - the Stover Open in Devon. The format was two scores to count on each hole. One of the teams finished a very respectable 8th, which was excellent considering the tough opposition.
Minehead and West Somerset Ladies also enjoyed a Wessex match against Burnham and Berrow which was played away. Tough conditions ensued, a strong westerly wind and the visiting team were soundly beaten 5 ½ to 1 ½ by the home team who deserved their success.
This week’s home competition was the Monthly medal. It was played in windy conditions with the rough growing up. Sue Garwood, enjoying a good spell of form, was again in the money, winning this time with a score of nett 68 (5 under handicap). 2nd was Gill Hurley (38) who scored a nett 76.
Next week sees a friendly match away at Tiverton and the home competition is the ‘Ping 4 ball better ball’.
