MINEHEAD & West Somerset Golf Club hosted a Mixed Open Greensomes which saw a full entry of 26 pairs taking part in what is a more relaxed competition.

Early scores were close; however, the best was saved until last when the final two pairs took the honours. The winners overall were Pat Lucas (Minehead Ladies Captain) and Steve Woodbury (Minehead) who finished with an excellent 45 points, on count back from Emma and Mark Harris (Minehead).

Flora Horne and George Hampshire (Minehead) were third on count back with 40 points, Flora sinking a 62ft putt on the final hole.

The winning visitors, also with 40 points, were Sarah Blake (Taunton & Pickeridge GC) and Matt Lazenby (Weston–super-Mare GC), second place going to Sue and Clive Stilwell with 34 points.

On Monday, the Seniors played a Pine-amble competition. With sweaters once again the order of the day, this proved to be arguably the closest competition played for some while as only four points separated all 10 pairs. First place on count back with a nett 58 were Bob Arthington and Sandy Lyons. Second position went to Martin Hole and Tim Tennant while Mark Ruttley and Nigel Trevelyan finished third with 59.

The Seniors played a friendly match against Royal North Devon Golf Club on Wednesday. Conditions on the back nine were very difficult, but familiar to both links teams as they fought to maintain a straight course down the fairways. The match, perhaps unsurprisingly finished in a creditable 3.5/3.5 draw.

The Seniors also played a Stableford and scoring was again susceptible to the back nine conditions. Nevertheless, Tim Evans held his nerve and direction to win with 38 points. Second place went to Edward Frewin with 36 points while Sandy Lyons came third with 35.
