THE Seniors section at Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club started their week by playing a Pine-amble competition.

The event attracted some excellent pairings so it was really no surprise that come the end of the round the result was a close run thing with four of the teams returning to the clubhouse on nett 68.

Countback had to be used to separate the quartet after which first place went to Doug Hayhoe and Mark Ruttley, who were just ahead of Kevin Garner and Dave Oatridge, Dave Ball and Tiny Welford finished in third place while Steve Gay and Dave Walmsley claimed fourth.

The Seniors were out in force again for the midweek Bowmaker which attracted another large entry. On this occasion the team of Graham Smith, Mark Ruttley and Dave Ball romped to a decisive victory with 83 points.

The winners had a six point advantage over the second placed team of with Rob Poirrier, Tim Tennant and Nigel Trevelyan who returned with 77. Third place in the Bowmaker was claimed by Roger Read, Chris Durman and Tim Evans with 76 points.

A fine day on Friday welcomed another large number of entries who signed up to take part in the Stableford. Once again the number of participants and the conditions made for an excellent competition.

At the end of the round the top three all scored 38 points, so yet again it was countback that was called upon to decide the outcome, following which it was Nigel Moore who was the winner, just ahead of second placed Kevin Garner and Graham Smith who was third.
