MINEHEAD moved up to eighth in the first division of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League after beating lowly Bishop Sutton 2-0 at home in their latest match.
It was their first victory of the New Year, having lost their only other game of 2026, 3-1 away to Sporting Weston in mid-January.
Minehead boss Lee Todd, who took charge of the side in October, said: “I thought it was the most important match since I became Minehead manager because we had played little football for two months. It was a must-win game for us.
“I thought we got on top in the first half after we scored both our goals. They had more of the play for a spell in the second half but I thought we could have won by a bigger margin. We missed a couple of really good chances.”
Minehead went ahead after 20 minutes of play when Tom Barnes scored direct from a free-kick with the home side looking the better team at this stage.
Minehead stretched their lead ten minutes later when top scorer Toby Waghorn ran through to score with a clinical finish after being put through by Sam Jackson who was Man of the Match.
Minehead: Turner, Burge, JJ Knight, Harvey-Lamar, Morris, Haren, Ronan, Voss, Jackson, Waghorn, Barnes. Substitutes: Prescott, Burns.
In other games played in the division, Combe St Nicholas lost for the first time this season when they went down 3-0 away to Westfield.
It leaves Combe still in third place in the table, with games in hand on the two teams above them, leaders Portsihead Town Reserves and Peasedown Miners Welfare.
Portishead gained a crushing 7-0 away win over Keynsham Town Reserves to open up a six-point lead over Peasedown who were without a fixture but have two games in hand on the leaders.
