MINEHEAD & West Somerset Golf Club hosted their Presentation Evening on Saturday in the clubhouse.
Following an excellent meal provided by Sara and her catering team, the outgoing Lady Captain Pat Lucas presented a cheque to Jonathan Langdon, Vice-President of St Margaret’s Hospice, on behalf of the club for a magnificent total of £8,987.60.
Prize giving then continued with Will Paton receiving the trophy for club champion and Patricia Grinter the ladies champion.
Grateful thanks as ever must go to Glenn Ross, the club manager at Minehead & West Somerset Golf Club for his helpful organization and contribution to the event.
The following morning saw the new captains step onto the first tee for the customary ‘Drive-In’ to celebrate the commencement of their captaincy for the year: Jenny Elliott as ladies’ captain and Nigel Trevelyan as seniors’ captain.
Meanwhile. the Seniors’ friendly matches are now coming in thick and fast.
Minehead Seniors hosted to their counterparts from neighboursTaunton and Pickeridge and came out as the winners 4-2.
This was followed up by a match against Oake Manor Seniors which the home team won comfortably 5-1 and to complete a hat trick of victories, Minehead Seniors beat Enmore Park 5.5- 0.5.
Unfortunately, the Seniors’ winning run was ended when they travelled up the coast to play at Burnham and Berrow where the home team triumphed 3.5-2.5.
The Seniors’ April Fool’s Texas Scramble drew considerable interest in terms of the revised format (6 drives each). The excellent winning score of nett 60 was achieved by Tim Evans, Mark Walton and Dave Walmsley. In second place with nett 62 were Roger Green, Steve Woodbury and Nigel Trevelyan while Malcolm Bruce, John Burrow and Steve Gay took third position with nett 66.
