MONDAY signalled the start of a busy week for the Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club seniors section when they played a Scorpion Competition.
However, there was no sting in the tail for the pairing of Richard Austwick and Chris Durman who won on countback with nett 68, who were just ahead of Doug Hayhoe and Tim Tennant. Third place with nett 69 went to Peter Young and Neville Parsons.
In mid week the seniors played a medal off of the white tees at the end of which it was Roger Green who was the winner with a nett 68.
Second place with a nett 70 was the evergreen octogenarian Edward Frewin, on countback from Richard Austwick who was third and Tim Evans in fourth place.
The week ended on Friday with the fifth and final round of the Marshall Cup. The conditions provided a challenge making it difficult with players having to contend with a stiff breeze which inevitably affected scoring.
However, there was one exception, and that was Richard Austwick, the winner of Round 5, who has hit a surprisingly rich vein of form since returning from his arduous globetrotting exploits. He shot a nett 64 that included a two-shot penalty on the first as he contrived to hit the wrong ball. Nevertheless, it was a very creditable performance.
Second place went to Doug Hayhoe with nett 70, while five shots behind was Peter Young who came third on countback with nett 75.
The overall winner of the Marshall Cup 2025 with the three best aggregate nett scores out of five was Doug Hayhoe with 212, so many congratulations to him for an excellent all round performance. Second place went to Dave Oatridge with 218, while Roger Read took third position on 219.
