OAKE Manor Golf Club has hosted a 24 hour Marathon which raised over £15,000 for Cancer Research UK.
The event was organised by Ros Wills who is aiming to raise £60,000 for the charity in her 60th year after her husband Andrew Gadd died from cancer. Three teams of golfers played continually for 24 hours, completing 108 holes and doing 57,000 steps each.
Ros has arranged other fundraising events, including a barn dance in September and ball in February.
Ros said “What a fantastic event - amazing togetherness and such camaraderie. A huge thanks to Mike King and Oake Manor for facilitating the organisation and going above and beyond.”
On Saturday Oake Manor held a Stableford. Oliver Nott was the winner with 42 points, Freddie Elgin came second in division 1 with 41 points and David Rossillo third with 39 points. Ashley Hewitt won division 2 with 41 points while Tom Parker came second with 40 points and Keith Phillips third, also 40 points.
David Male won the Sunday Stableford, scoring 42 points while Steve Davies came second with 41 points and Freddie Elgin third, also 41 points for the second day running.
The Seniors played a Stableford on Monday for the Roger Clarke Trophy, Howard Spear was the winner with 41 points, ahead of Tony Staple, also with 41 points on count back, Steve Cann was third in division 1 with 40 points. Tony Falker won division 2 with 40 points while Terry Brown came second, also with 40 points, and Trevor Cook was third with 37 points.
The Ladies have held their annual Invitation Day. Winners were Shane Bordier and guest Sara Cox-Conklin from Burnham and Berrow who had a better ball score of 48 points. Second was Karen Grabham and Lesley Moore with 47 points and Emma Fitzgerald and Ginnette Bowyer, third with 36 points.
