SOME 42 children enjoyed a Mountain Bike Go-Race event run by Minehead Merlins at Webbers Post.

An addition on the day was a balance bike race for children under eight, using cycles with no pedals, and there was a good turnout for this event, with those taking part enjoying the chance to race like their older brothers and sisters.

Races for under 8s to under 14s were also well supported with winners coming from Minehead Merlins and further afield.

At the end of the day, the Merlins presented a donation to a young rider, Callum Stanton, who is aiming to ride a thousand miles this year in memory of his mother, who died recently.

Callum is raising money for cancer research and after coming second in his race he was delighted to add to his already substantial fundraising total.

Callum told everyone about his effort, and he hopes to reach his 1000-mile target soon.

Minehead Merlins are currently running mountain biking sessions and sessions on cycling skills at 1610 - more details on Facebook or from British Cycling.
