WATCHET Town suffered another heavy defeat on the road when they crashed out of the Uhlsport Somerset County League Knockout Cup for Premier & 1st Division teams last Saturday by virtue of a 9-0 hammering away to Clevedon United.
The visitors went close early on with Billy Jones heading an Alfie Cox cross the wrong side of an upright before the tide turned emphatically in Clevedon’s favour.
Charley Clausen seemed to have cleared the ball prior to an opponent making contact with his foot and the young referee gave a disputed penalty which was converted to make it 1-0.
An astonishing headed goal line clearance by Connor Jeromson only delayed Watchet from being punished for not dealing with set pieces as the slick home side galloped into a 4-goal lead at the interval.
A soft goal at the start of the second half was soon followed by a smart volley and with Watchet unable to stem a wave of attacks the rampant Clevedon outfit went on to rack up three more goals before the final whistle put the visitors out of their misery.
