AFTER being hammered 9-0 by Clevedon United in a cup-tie a few weeks ago Watchet Town gave a much better account of themselves in their encounter against the same opposition in the Premier Division of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League at the Memorial Ground.

Although the visitors held the edge it was two late goals which gave them a 4-0 winning margin against a Red & Blacks outfit showing encouraging signs.

The returning Ben Robinson gave Watchet a stronger look in midfield and Billy Jones and Alfie Cox provided an attacking threat as they sought to make life difficult for Clevedon.

Jay Darrell sent a 25 yard left foot shot just over the bar while at the other end keeper Jack Harding made some good saves to keep the visitors at bay. They eventually took the lead on 30 minutes after a quick break down the left led to a low cross which eluded defenders allowing incoming full back Jenkins to side foot home.

A free kick from Charley Clausen looked destined for the bottom corner of the net until it struck Todd Willis and & 1-0 it stayed at halftime.

Watchet continued to work hard before the lead was increased soon after the hour when Teall found the top corner from 20 yards.

Seth Bunge headed just over and Watchet had plausible penalty appeals turned down when Jones was sent tumbling and then the keeper kicked Cox after a challenge as they continued to stay in the game.

A harsh sin bin for Charley Clausen contributed to Watchet tiring before further goals from Kern and Richards made sure of the points.
