IT WAS an all-too familiar story for Watchet Town last Saturday when they went down 3-0 at home to Nailsea United Reserves in the first division of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League.

After an even first half where there was little to choose between the sides Watchet had contrived to trail to two defensive clangers but felt if they could get the next goal they could turn things around.

Watchet keeper Regan Gallagher was called into early action when he tipped a speculative long range effort onto the bar.

Watchet were putting some promising moves together with Billy Jones making inroads on more than one occasion with only the final product lacking. A calamitous mix-up in the home rearguard saw Nailsea take the lead which they doubled just before the interval with a free header from a needlessly-conceded corner.

With confidence understandably low Watchet were unable to find the spark following the interval which might have made for an interesting second half.

Play was regularly disrupted as the Red & Blacks struggled to keep their discipline in the face of some frustrating decisions. Midway through the half the issue was settled when a visiting winger drifted inside to unleash a thunderbolt with his left foot from fully 30 yards which rocketed into the roof of the net.

Connor Jeromson headed wide from Josh Aspey’s corner and substitute Lewis Clavey shot straight at the keeper when just wide of the near post. To compound yet another disappointing afternoon for the Red & Blacks captain Charley Clausen was shown a second yellow in a 50/50 challenge which meant them ending proceedings with 10 men.

Watchet Town: Regan Gallagher, Harvey Henderson, Eben Harding, Connor Jeromson, Josh Aspey, Aerron Clausen, Mikey Bailey, Mal Sherring, Todd Willis, Charley Clausen, Billy Jones. Subs: Lewis Clavey, Ollie Webber, Tom Sparks (used) & Rob Spicer-Wedlake.
